Buta Biberaj was born in Montenegro and is of Albanian parentage. She was raised in the Bronx borough of New York City. After attending Fordham University, Rose Hill Campus, NYC, for her freshman and first-half of sophomore years, she transferred to George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in Education in 1987 and received her J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law in 1993.

Buta is licensed to practice in the State Courts for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Maryland and New York.  She is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Buta’s involvement in the community is evidenced by her participation and service which include being a mentor for the Leadership in Law program, a trial participant (defense attorney, prosecutor, and judge) at the mock trials for the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, speaker and mentor for the Loudoun County Public Schools on Law Day, and is on the Board of Directors of the non-profit corporation A Advantage 4 Kids, Inc., an organization benefitting Northern Virginia families and children.

As a long standing member of the Loudoun County Bar Association, Buta served as President for the 2014-2015 term.  Under her leadership, the LCBA created the “Street Law” program.  The “Street Law” program matched local attorneys with students at the Douglas School.  The attorneys presented and advised the students on the rights of juveniles as they relate to employment, criminal and civil law.

For over six years, Buta was a member of the Best Practice Court’s Committee for the Loudoun County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. She participated in state wide conferences that focused on the development and implementation of practices that improve the legal process for children and families involved in Foster Care.

Buta is currently and has been a long-standing Member of the Loudoun County Criminal Defense Bar, the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Loudoun Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, The American Association of Justice, the New York State Bar, and the Maryland State Bar.

In 2010, Buta was elected to represent the 10th District on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Additionally, she was invited to and participated in the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative Ad Hoc Committee. She assisted in researching and developing recommendations for community standards for the detention of juveniles in Loudoun County.

Buta has been recognized for her efforts, experience and success by numerous organizations.  Such recognition includes being named as a Top 100 Trial Attorneys in Virginia, Top 100 DUI Attorneys in Virginia, and rated by her peers and clients on as Superb.
